In modern agriculture, the soil is exposed to pollutants from the application of pesticides, manure and municipal sludge. The pollutants endangers the drinking water quality.
Soil microorganisms can break down pollutants but their efficiency depends upon numerous environmental conditions.
CREAM has the overall goal to identify environmental factors regulating the microbial degradation processes under natural soil conditions. Results from the research will form a platform for new ideas and strategies for efficient protection of our drinking water.
